I am having this dilemna....I have basically finished my current 73 except for a few last items (paint$$$). I am having the HP bug or maybe the Big Block bug biting me and it wont go away. I thought about dropping a big block in my car but I cant bring myself to buy a third motor for the same car. I am kinda missing turning the wrench in the old shop if ya know what I mean. I know there is more that I could do to my present car but I am having a really hard time getting motivated.....I am thinking of selling and getting a 68-72 vert with or without motor/trans and building it up over 2 seasons. My car has all the matching numbers drivetrain in my garage. I hate to modify it too much as that might mean alot to someone down the road. Then again maybe not.
If the wrenching bug has you that bad, then put it up for sale at an inflated price...If it sells then great, go find your next toy.
If it doesn't sell right away, then enjoy it...
Now go out and give your vette a hug, and say..."I accept you just like you are"
Dang it's like being married :smash: :smash: :smash:
Paul, paul, paul, what are we going to do with you? You cannot sell a 73 Vette. A Vette is like a child. If you will check your state law you will see that it is illegal to sell children. Once you adopt a Vette it is yours for life (guess that is why I have three). If the wrench bug has you, just go and adopt another Vette. It can keep your 73 company. In fact it would be good for both of them, they can keep each other company and you will have happier and more contented cars.
I am struggling.....Once I paint it I wont sell it....After seeing a really nice modded 69 vert my tastes have somewhat changed. I have put alot of money into this car and it is a great runner/daily driver. I think if I cashed out I could buy another and build it the way I like over 2 seasons or so.....I only have room for one car in my shop so having two is not going to happen. arghhhh
Paul,
The answer is obvious
If the HP itch is getting to you, Sctratch it.
I would NOT go to a big block though, You'll end up having to change too much.
Put the numbers matching motor on a stand, in the corner, under plastic, (Sounds like you already did that and bought a zz4?)
You could rebuild the ZZ4 into a stroker, or build a new motor, (A 406 obviously) and sell the ZZ4 here or on ebay when you are done.
But why take 2 years?
Just max out the creditcards, get a radical 406 together, you know, the one you wish you built instead of the crate motor. forged bottom end, Hi compression, radical roller cam, roller valve train, aluminum heads, yeah, that one., the 550 hp small block.
Then see if it it solves your need for speed.
I just built a 400 block to a 375 destroker for my racecar and I'm sleeping much better at night. Built it right. New Eagle crank, Eagle 3D Hbeams JE pistons, Crower Cam. 7500 rpm redline=) =) =) new super comp headers... new holley 750, Canton pan.
ordering a remote oil cooler and lightweight flywheel in a week or 2.
Fried the tranny in 9 laps with the new motor so its time for an upgrade there too.
I highly recommend it for you.

YEP.... That's what I did. Have to have two. This way you'll have one to drive while the other is under the wrench!! :smash: :smash:
