A previous owner of my 71 270HP removed the vacuum advance tube (steel) and replaced it with rubber vacuum hose. I can find the part
I need but here is my question to all you 71's out there: How many clips
do I need to hold this tube off the valve covers ? one or 2 ? if it's 1, does it go on the front or rear vc bolt ?
While we're on the subject, the wire on the other side of the carb is also laying on the valve cover. It gets very hot and can't be a good thing. Is
there supposed top be a clip holding this too ?
I have a 71' with the 270 HP engine. It was original when I bought it and I have hundreds of pictures of just about everything before I restored it. Give me your email, and I'll send some your way.
In 1971 the 270HP 350 had the TSC system. Transmission spark control. What it did was either turn off the signal to the Vacuum advance or turn it on when you were in 1st or 2nd (or 3rd and 4th, I don't really know how it works exactly but it was something like what I described, it was also engine teprature dependant also, someone here should know for sure). The components of the system consist of a transmission switch, a temp sensor on the right rear side of of the engine (on right head) and a selonoid that mounted to on the right side of the intake next to the carb. I do not know if there were rubber or metal lines going from the carb to this selenoid but I would think there was a rubber line going to the distributor. So if you are going for the original look you should have this selenoid on the intake and at least one rubber line going to the vacuum avance can, then either a rubber or metal line coming from the carb to the selonoid. LT1 cars did not have this system. I hope this helps.
