My 68 has a TH400 in it. It's been a long restoration and I had the trans rebuilt about 6 years ago. Finally broke in the engine and I've found this leak. Not sure what the correct name for the part is... but it's leaking. If someone is familiar with these trans would you be so kind as to enlighten me how this thing is held in place and whether or not i can just pull it out and replace a seal or something? Thank you.
Can't tell you why it's leaking, but that's the connection to the internal kickdown solenoid. If no one replies here, one of the more generic Chevy forums will undoubtedly have transmission guys who know about this. I suspect there's no fluid at that level when the motor isn't running, but I wouldn't try to remove it until you talk to someone in the know.
You just need a new o-ring on your solenoid case connector. Remove the pan and filter then to release the connector, press a 3/4 inch socket over the inner tabs to compress and release them while pulling it from the outside. If the connector isn't cracked, install a new o-ring, snap it back in place and Bob's your uncle.
