Historic Plates?
I may be going out on a limb here but.
At a recent function I noticed an 80 Vette from my state (Maryland) that was sporting historic plates. Now I thought that the car had to be 25 yrs old to qualify but from looking at the Md MVA site
http://mva.state.md.us/AboutMVA/FAQ/default.htm#19
I found this:
Does my vehicle qualify for historic or street rod plates?
Historic:
The vehicle is 25 calendar years or older and has not been substantially altered, remodeled, or remanufactured from its original construction, or
The vehicle is between 20 and 24 model years old and is a model, of which the manufacturer produced 1,000 or fewer models for that year, as verified by the manufacturer (supporting documentation required). The vehicle has not been substantially altered, remodeled or remanufactured from its original construction, or
The vehicle is between 20 and 24 model years old and is a make that the manufacturer no longer produces, as verified by the manufacturer (supporting documentation required). It is not substantially altered, remodeled or remanufactured from it original construction.
Now that last part got me thinking. I know the make (corvette) is still produced but could you argue that since c3's are no longer produced it qualifies?
The 80 I saw didn't look substantially altered and I'm pretty sure more than 1000 were made.
Does anyone have any experience in this area? My registration is up next month and I would love to get the historic plates.
Thanks,
John
By the definition you provided I dont think an 80 Corvette would qualify. But maybe that guy has a friend at DMV or somebody bought his explanation that with silver exterior and green interior it was "1 of 1" MJ
Maybe he told them it was a "Stingray" and they dont make those anymore!
