Who Still makes Diff Gear Sets ?
Looking around and I don't see many manufacturers still producing rear end gear sets. Richmond is out of it, Motive is down to just 3.55 and 3.70 ratios. Who is left?

I have been told by a diff rebuilding service that Richmond has stopped producing rear gear sets. They were noisy anyway, strong but not too much of a following on the street.

If I had a nickel for every time someone said Richmonds are noisy...... I would have a bunch of nickels. If you don't know how to set them up, they will make noise. Just like any other gearset.

When I was shopping for a gear set. I posted on CF for recommendations. Richmond came up on a lot of posts. Got alot of comments that they were strong but had a tendency to be noisy.
I agree any gear set not set up properly will be noisy....

My 3.73s are quiet as a mouse.. If their gears are noisey, it may be caused by the nut on the OTHER end of the wrench
Edward at Duntov Motors Racing custom built mine.. We started with a 3.31 but it was not right with my motor..yanked it back out, went to a Dana 3.73 ratio with REM coating in my 81 , and we have a Richmond set ,3.55 ratio in a 76 in the family ... 5 years now behind my 525 HP.. still quiet and still holding up. edit..actually, its more like 6 or 7 years now.. time flies

Richmond Gear was sold a couple of years ago to Motive. They still offer 3.08 to 4.11 gears. Not sure if the 4.33 is still made but they have them in stock. Richmond made several different type of gears, if you put a race gear in a street car it could be noisy. It also completely depends on the setup and bearings. I have seen plenty of pinion bearing failure that whine. If you don't know the difference between a bearing whine and gear whine they could easily be confused.
