Default Tire size question

Will 255/60-15 fit my 72 Corvette, and does this size convert to original size. Not sure what it was. Got 205/75 now, wich seems a bit odd...

Fit's but may rub a little on the front fenders depending on caster.

That's what I had before I switched to 18" in the same diameter.

I had tried the bigger 255X60R15's on my big block '71 and found the front tires rubbed hard when I turned sharp corners. So I reduced the size for the front to 225X60R15's and that did the trick. And don't you dare ask us how much pressure they require..................

Hi ciwi,
The present day equivalent of the F70-15 that was standard on a 72 is a 215-70-15.
This tire seems a bit skimpy by todays standards.
The next size would be a 225-70-15 which is a little 'taller' and wider than the originals.
The 255-60-15 size is very popular today. It really fills the wheel openings.
Some people find it rubs the frame or wheel opening lip in the front… often just on one side. This seems to do with the condition of the front spring and just how the body is sitting on the frame.
Regards,
Alan

Fairly 'fat'. 255-60-15

It is stock rims no spacer, i really like them, think they are 8 inch wide?
Maybe 255 is to much for that rimsize.

Is that really a 70 profile, to get the same diameter as stock it would be 60 for a 255 tire according to tiresize converter

Hi ciwi,
You're right, I typed 70 rather than 60!!!!!
The stock wheel in 72 was 8" wide.
The 255-60 tire will mount on it.
The 235-60 tire is wide but short compared to the 255-60.
You MAY feel it doesn't fill the front wheel opening very well compared to the rear 255-60 tire. It gives a bit of the little/big look.
Regards,
Alan

I think you might mean 235/60 and not 235/65. And yes, it will work. Some folks are also using 275/60 on the rears with 235 or 245 or 255 in front. Most are on oem 15x8 rims which is probably what you have.

235/65-15 front to get the same diameter as stock...

Tire rack doesn't carry that size. Maybe a very difficult size to find.

Keep in mind that the 255/60/15 was an optional size from the Factory on the late C3's. It shouldn't take much to fit them.

My 69' had them all the way around.....even when I lowered the front end....it only rubbed on full lock on the right.....It looked pretty tough IMHO.... And it handled awesome for what it was.....
