merry christmas to all. i'm having problems hooking up my throttle cable to my carb. it's a 71 sbc with performer rpm intake and q-jet carb. the stock cable just does not seem to be the right length.the car came with the stock 270 horse sbc. it's the stock cable and i had a holley 3310 on it and had the cable working fine but i can't seem to get it to hook up right with the q-jet carb. i still have the stock pinch bracket on it. the intake has the q-jet adapter which is about 3/4 inch higher but i have always been able to make things work with my other cars. the q-jet is a 800 cfm buick model with the big hook on the throttle arm but i can work around that. has anybody used the locar throttle stuff? i would be ok with that stuff as long as it looked good and worked. i think with the higher intake and adapter that it is just too high for the stock stuff. as always thanks very much. denny
A good side view photo so we can see where the level of the PINCH portion of the bracket is in relation to the throttle shaft where the cable would connect.
Then one straight down so we can see if the pinch portion is in line with the front throttle linkage area also.
I can tell you this...I have MANY TIMES got it connected and tested it and the accelerator pedal would NOT allow the carb to go to full throttle when pressed to the floor....and I remove the accelerator pedal and tweak it...so when the pedal is on the carpet (or floormat)...the carb can go to full throttle.
thanks for the reply.yes i will get some photos.i have an extra performer rpm intake and i am going to mock up my 750 h.p. carb. on. the cable worked very good and i will take measurements and see where i am going wrong. the holley set up did not have a spacer on it and i'll take some measurements and see if i can adjust.

yes, i have fabricated many linkages over the years.this one just smacked me in the head because i thought it would be easy this time. i'll go at it again after the holidays and let you know how it is going.

And yes, a good side view picture would really help as we could see what you're dealing with.
thanks for the reply. i was looking at the lokar stuff last night in the summit book. they have quite a few kinds. do you have a part number that you think will work?. thanks, denny

You will need the 24" universal cable and a Lokar throttle bracket kit for the carburetor that you are using. The bracket does not come with the cable and you will need their bracket. I used the black stainless cable with a Holley 650 DP. Fun getting under the dash to hook it all up but well worth it.

i got it to work today.sometimes i have study the problem for awhile then go to the school of hard knocks.i mocked everything up and watched the travel and the arc of the throttle arm and looked at 750 hp on my other intake. i have the bracket mounted on a plate and did not have to modify the factory bracket. i can now switch from my q-jets to my holleys in about 20 minutes without cutting anything up. enclosed is a pic. i will take everything apart this weekend, sand and smooth everything and primer and paint. thanks to everybody for your help. denny
