I just bought a 72 that I am starting to restore. It needs a radiator and radiator support (old one was rusted out). The guy that I bought the car from told me that there were a couple of different radiators and radiator supports that were used for that year. Can anyone tell me if this is true? Does anyone have a radiator and support for sale for this year model. My car has a 350ci automatic.
You can get the support from Doctor Rebuild or Paragon Reproduction and the radiator from DeWitts. Check their web sites. The support is around $300. Depending on the radiator, figure twice as much. Don't forget the support mounting bolt kit and new radiator/support seals while your at it. If your looking for used parts check or advertise on the for sale/wanted forum.
If your car is a "base" or "L-48" 350, and not an LT-1, which I suspect it is not because you state it is an automatic, then I have got rad for sale that came out of my "base L-48" 350 automatic car. It is an original "Harrison" rad in excellent shape, and has been pressure tested. I want $100 US for it, plus shipping. If you are interested in it, let me know, and I will email you digital pics of the rad.
As for the support, I can't help you with that, sorry. I ended up buying a new reproduction support for my car.
As far as the differences in rads and supports goes, in 72 there were three different engine options:
-base 200 hp L-48 350; auto or 4 spd
------- 255 hp LT-1 350; 4 spd only
------- 270 hp LS-5 454; auto or 4 spd
Each engine/transmission option had a specific rad and support combination.
Hope this helps. Nice year car, by the way!!!
