Hei conversion for 74
Anyone have experience with: top performance 6515-r distributor, MSD 31763 spark plug wires, Ngk yr51x plugs . I'm ready to convert next week. Any tips or concerns appreciated

Why not keep your factory points distributor and have it rebuilt/recurved? Most of the cheap hei distributors are made in china and some use some marginal ignition modules so carry a spare! Points will rarely leave you stranded and the smaller caps look better!!

You will need a key switched 12volt power source. Most use the yellow wire on the wiper motor as the source.
The points use a resistor and approximately 7-9 volts.
I went with a Tachometer -drive Heli in my 71 as an easy setup after the rebuild. I've run it all summer and drove the car a lot. No issues. I tapped into the wiper feed.
I converted my 72 to a module in the stock distributor over 10 years ago and set the rev limiter at 5000 RPM, it's number matching with 22000 mikes so it doesn't get out much - just runs better and you can't tell it's converted. I can always drop the points back in..
