Has anyone tried this intake on a 68-72 BBC? It lists the carb pad height at 4.45". That is less than an inch more than the 3.57" stock manifold. Any chance this manifold fit with a drop base filter?
Also, it's made for a square bore carb. Any recommendations for a good low profile square bore carb for a 70 454 with Edelbrock heads?

I don't see that fitting.
Clay your current setup and see how much room you have.
I have the repro LS6 manifold with the OEM heatshield and 3/8 wood spacer.
I have about 3/4" clearance. I tried a 1/2 spacer on the top of the carb and it fit but after driving around the engine movement caused it to rub on the hood.
Here is how it looks.

That's a re-badged Edelbrock Performer RPM 7161. I don't know what accounts for the 4.450 carb pad height on the GM because the Edelbrock says 5.220.... I think that the GM measurement is jut plain wrong as Edelbrock cast and machines almost all of the GMPP intakes and cyl heads.
FYI - People have used the Performer 2-0 2161 which is 4.850 with a deep dropped base air cleaner.

Thanks, what kind and size of air cleaner are you using? Also what's the purpose of the wood spacer?Originally Posted by ddawson

Insulates the carb from the intake. Reduces heat related performance issues. But.....Ive always used pheonolic (sp) resin spacers, which look like a cross between plywood and bakelite. Is this the same thing as the 'wood spacer'?Originally Posted by Kris_K
