Visually it's obvious.every professional makes mistakes but it is how they handle them that separates the wanna be crowd from true profesionals.

Note the amount of silicone on the china wall and the neatly placed rockers and polylocks.

The mark of a true professional!

I hope that whoever made this mess isn't a member here.

The first thing that caught my eye was the valvetrain components heaped in a pile and I thought "Who does that?!?!?". Then I noticed the pistons and totally missed the globs of silicone. Nice, neat, and great attention to detail. What's not to like?

Default Wow

I am not an expert nor am I licensed auto engine builder but just wow... Silicone.....pistons.... Great accountability of parts. Also I hope that the bell housing is on for show or to balance it because the spacers that are there just don't make sense.

I'm guessing it was a test run on an engine stand. That's what we're seeing in the background. The spacers may be some solution the builder devised to simplify connection of numerous motor types to the same 'dummy' bellhousing.

I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Everyone's entitled to a "duh" moment now and again. It's a matter of how high on your particular horse you're mounted when it hits the fan. You either suck it up or you point fingers. That was the point of the original post.

As pointed out, there are some other items that would make me think that, overall, this is a less-than-clinical operation we're seeing here. My builder isn't a heart surgeon, but that random pile of rockers would not pass muster in his shop.

I disagree.. Many members of forums express their bad experiences with vendors as a warning not to use them.. without the vendor ever having an opportunity to give their side .. I think its fair for a vendor to show that not all customer complaints are vendors fault. Many are just mistakes caused by customer but blamed on vendor. .. ... just my opinion

The short block is no place to have ones attention taken from it.
From dial boring the bearings and bore to file fitting rings....spiro-locs etc......
The valve reliefs were most likely caused by a distraction or way too much beer.

No professional engine builder would paint his work that color.

Actually, I have to disagree. I got to choose my block color when having my engine built. I chose red as it picked up on the only other color that was in my engine bay other than black and grey. And I didn't want it to be an OCEAN of black and grey under the hood. My choice.

A fellow customer wanted his 454 that was going into his old Monte Carlo painted white. Looks good in the car. His choice.

Why is it incumbent on the engine builder to pick the paint color?

Come on now, you couldn't tell that was a joke as far off the purist path as I run? I'm using Ford IAC valve and vacuum pump and Dodge injectors and coil packs on my black chevy motor. I have no room to badmouth an engine for being Kawasaki colors.

What cracks me up is that since 2004 or so when the internet became huge.....there is a tremendous upheaval of keyboard warriors that will "tell" you how to build an engine.....but they are not "building" squat.....
Very rarely does a person start a thread concerning actually ASSEMBLING an engine.....and even then there are those that discuss it and actually do it....
Assembly is a LOT of work.....it takes a LOT of patience and attention to detail. When you are able to assemble an engine and hear it run....it is very rewarding.....

That brings me to the green engine here.......a fella has to remember to separate his ego and pride from performing tasks, correctly, in a practical order to realize fruition of the end result.
This was not done here.....this is haste....and not paying attention....

What baffles me is how one would think they even have a case with that photo? Did said person not even LOOK at it before he sent it to ProMaxx? Those guys must have quite a laugh......
Talk about epic pretentious fail!!!!!

No doubt. After pulling the heads and seeing the eyebrows on the small reliefs, I would have hung my head and shame, bought a crate engine and can of paint. How arrogant does he have to be to fire off such an email without being double dam sure he was in the right. Once you hit the send, there's no backing up.

Exactly.....I mean you murder your integrity with a photo like that.....

LOL!!

That's one thing I love about the digital age. Your words live on in hard copy. It's a good thing if you have integrity, but a big hammer balanced on the top of a 10' ladder you're about to pick up and move if your a liar and a scoundrel.
