Default Chrome Spinners...

Just need some information. I have a 1977 that came with the factory aluminum wheels. I purchased some after market spinners for these rims. On inspection I noticed that the centre hub has been glued on. I have to remove these in order to put the new spinners with hubs on. The replacement ones are held on by set screws. Is there a secret to getting the originals off? I don't want to damage the rims, otherwise I will return the spinners...Thanks for any information offered...

The caps are held on by retaining clips around its circumference. Depending on how the PO glued them on, you may damage them getting them off i.e. the retaining clips. A good pull on the caps should get them off but you may damage some or all the retainer clips. Replacements are not that expensive if you need to buy replacements at some point in the future. I hold mine on with a smidgen of a few dabs of silicone glue.

You could try a heat gun on the caps to break the seal. I have silicone on my caps to help hold them on. You will have to pull the wheels to mount your spinner hubs.

Your wheels are aluminum; stock caps are plastic. You're not likely to damage the wheels removing the caps. A suggestion: remove a wheel. Place the end of a mallet handle into the cap from the backside of the wheel and pop the mallet head with the palm of your hand.

Thanks Mike, I pulled a wheel and noticed that they were glued on. Maybe done by one of the previous owners. The new replacement ones have set screws to keep them in place. Thanks to all that answered my post...Matt

Matt grind a point on those set screws they will hold much better. I had those spinners on my car at one time.
