Nut and Bolt Question
all sorts of bolts....any good shop has a similar collection...much quicker than running around trying to buy decent Chinese made hardware these days....
GENE :D :D
I’m a toolmaker and have almost every nut and bolt know to man. I said almost because no matter how many you have (or how many stores you buy out) they won’t be the ones you need for your project. :mad :mad
And it’s even worse working on carpentry stuff around the house. (Never did like wood butchers) Off to Lowe’s……Always!!!

They last longer, rust slower, come out easier - but cost a lot more
than grade 3 or 5. So, I just buy 'em as I need 'em - and it takes me
at least 20 mintues one-way to get to a store with hardware.
These are nice grade 8 bolts that I used when the differential came out for
new yokes. The rust has already come through my cheesy paintjob, but
the bolts are still shiny new. Those'll come out like butter. soon.
A few lengths of assorted size threaded rod is nice as a backup. I have
cut my own studs many times when in a pinch to replace a bolt.
Now if I can only find my nuts ... :jester
Of course - like Gene and many others, I try to keep anything that is useful.
Plus, our tranfer station (dump) has nice pickings. There is a "metal" area
that people pile scrap onto. Often, I see boxes of decent hardware. I even
took our pool slide home from the dump !!
