Radio was ok,,,then static...then ok...then nothing...then ok...
I tested the power and power is good.
Then I used two other radios to test! All three radios have the "same" problem".
Used jumper wires to speaker...nothing.
Turn the **** on...no sound.
I have not checked the DS-501 yet.
Your thought and suggestions are needed!
Thanks folks!
I had the same problem then found both of my 44 year old OEM speakers had failed at the same time. So your radio may be in working condition and you just assume it failed.
I had the same issue and found the same problem as TBTR. I also tested with another radio with nothing.
You can test the speakers with a D battery. Jumper the green/black speaker wires to the battery; no crackle/thump noise speakers NG. That was recommended by "Jerry the radio guy". You wouldn't think both would be bad, but mine were.

I used Delco replacements. They are for newer years, but are correct 10 ohm. I drilled holes to match the speaker grills and soldered wires onto the tabs to connect to the original speaker wires when taken off the bad ones. PM if you need a pair.
