As a budget auto to manual swap. Recently 2nd gear went out of the turbo 350 that is in my 77. New crate motor rated at 500 footpounds of torque, so I new the turbo 350 wouldn't last. Just trying to get opinions on a 4 or 5 speed conversion, and if it is budget friendly.
Or rebuild the TH350 yourself for even less than $800. They are not as hard to rebuild as many believe. I've been using a modified one behind a Big Block Oldsmobile pulling 1.6 60' times for years and it takes the abuse just fine. If you want to go this route, I can provide more details.
I did an auto to manual (5 speed) swap on my 76' and it wasn't cheap. However, if you are willing to use used components I'm sure it can be done much more inexpensive than my swap. Someone will probably chime in on ways to do an auto to manual on a tight budget. Good luck ... I know tranny issues can be frustrating.

Yeah. I got 4 11s and I'm trying to shy away from a 350. If I stick with auto I think 200r4. But man does a manual seem fun. Guess I need to find someone that has done the conversion with a budget
Sorry I can't be alot of help regarding an inexpensive build. I used a Richmond 5 speed, Long's shifter, Quick Time scatter shield, and all new GM clutch linkage.
I converted my '64 from Powerglide to Muncie 4-speed. I already had the transmission so my biggest expense was the pedal assembly and clutch. I enjoy the 4-speed more than the PG.
