Default '74 Manual To Automatic Conversion?

IS HE CRAZY?!?!? I see lots of info to swap in a stick, but what about going the other way? I know I could sell the car and buy one with an auto, just wondering.

I've done it several times and there's nothing unusual about it. If you drive in cities like San Francisco where there are a LOT of hills an automatic is the only way to go.

That's what is generally done. You can use the other threads that swap a manual in, just reverse the process.

I would be doing a 700R4, will the tunnel clear that?

I am not sure. I am not sure but you are using the best Automatic available. I put one in my 74 when I removed the Th-400 it is smaller. What are you doing with the manual set-up? I am looking to do the auto to manual switch on my 74. Let me know if you already bought your 700R4.

I figured it would fit, all the searches showed auto to manual, not vise versa. I don't even have the car yet. I may love the stick as I no longer commute to Houston, and wouldn't use the 'Vette if I did. But over the last thirty years I've grown to hate stick shifts. I'm lazy!

When the TH350 died in my T-bucket, I swapped in a TH400. I originally wanted the 700R4, but a local shop said it would require a larger tunnel. Don't know if the tunnel in my T was smaller than in a Vette.
