First time doing a heater core job on an GM A/C car. I have the center guage section out. Have found 4 fasteners that secure the interior distribution box. Non A/C cars use 5 fasteners. The AIM is open on the bench, but doesn't specify how many fasteners. So how many are there and where is the last one hiding? If you have any tips on doing this repair please come forward. Like there is a clamp that secures the heater core tubes in place in the engine compartment that looks like you cannot get at unless you remove the A/C housing Under the hood. Your comments are welcome, Thanks T
Hi t,
No a/c experience here!
I'm looking at the 71 AIM. I see only 4 fasteners for the box itself.
Is the center distribution duct that comes off the side of the box holding it in place?
Is the heater core holding it in place?
Is 'sealer' holding it in place?
???
Regards,
Alan
It's been a while since I changed an AC core, but if I recall correctly, there's one bolt under the hood, that you have to loosen or remove the evaporator box to get to. It might actually be the nut on the stud, that Willcox referenced. Either way, I don't think the AIM shows it clearly, and the shop manual doesn't explain it.
