Hello Everyone. Happy New Year. Well I took my 73 in to get painted back in October. Went to check on it beginning of Dec and was told that when they tried to start the car the battery was dead so they jumped the battery and the wiring inside the engine compartment started smoking. My guess is they hooked it up wrong. I looked under the car and saw the wiring coming from the starter and the two small wires on the solenoid were fried. I replaced the damaged wiring. Took the battery home to charge it. Went by last week to bring the car home. When I tried to start it, nothing not even a click. The inside lights work, headlights come on and brake lights work. What might be the problem(s)? Could there be more damaged wiring? starter? solenoid? Any and all info would be appreciated as I'm pretty bummed out about this? Thank you all in advance for your help. Charles
Hi c,
The ignition circuit begins at the horn relay on the left side apron.
Check the condition of the large red (gauge 10) wire.
The fusible link is at the starter for that wire…. it starts as red (gauge 10), becomes brown (gauge 14), then red (gauge 12). It runs to the top (large) terminal on the solenoid. Same terminal as the hot cable from the battery.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
Check out the details on that last pic. The Chevy orange goes and fades as it gets to the natural aluminum bellhousing. Most of us would have made it a definite straight line, but somehow the man makes it fade away, just like the factory. AND he's got pictures of it. Thank you sir for helping to make this forum what it is. We all appreciate it.

You are not alone, that's how I acquired my 71; I watched it happen in the service bay, then approached the manager and made an offer on a non-running car.
The technician was a student at a local Community College, and I knew him to be a bit of an idiot..
