Default Style over function?? (Exhaust wrap????)

Hey guys,
I have a lovely Stainless steel headers mated to my performance build 383 engine.
The headers have gone through the heat cycles and are lovely shade of blue.
I am considering wrapping them in an exhaust wrap, but nut sure if it is worth it.

What's your opinion on exhaust wraps??

Moot point, isn't it? If you want to wrap them, wrap them.

You might want to get ceramic coated, I am not a big fan of header wrap it can end up doing damage to headers by locking in moisture during heat cycles and thereby rusting them.

And yes it will happen to Stainless Steel, they will rust otherwise they would call them StainNot Steel. Stainless just means it takes longer for them to rust.

I don't think it adds either style or function. It's just Ugly stuff, I much prefer blued pipes.

Rookie comment/question: On military aircraft, fuel lines/turbine housings were wrapped with a metallic type of shield/"blanket" that held its shape because of the thickness of the "sandwich" layers.
I have seen similar "wrap" (not the pep boys/auto zone stuff) on internet sites......QUALITY stuff about 2 or 3 times thicker and double the price of the blanket that you would buy to wrap a starter with.

Stainless can have corrosion problems, but this stuff eliminated corrosion on aircraft parts that were 10 years old in Nam monsoons.

Has anyone on the Forum used this heavy-duty wrap?

Default I would not recommend it...mine fell apart

I wrapped my new headers in "brand name" wrap when fairly new. Several years later (I don't recall how long) I had to unwrap them to remove them (I don't recall for what) and when I did I found that underneath that wrap the metal had corroded and was flaking away and they were thin and useless. I had to discard and replace them. I recommend ceramic coated or SS.

EDIT:
And they looked like crap when wrapped too...
