What are the physical differences? GM still sells the BB support, and I can get one for a decent price.
Would I need to use a BB radiator?
Just a thought, as I want to replace mine in the next few months.
I've done radiator/engine swaps with BB's & SB's with other Chevys and never had a problem, and I can't imagine what would be different on a Vette core support.
I would get a good 4-core aluminum radiator before going the big-radiator route, based on my prior experience. Removing a big block radiator is a 2-person job that requires lifting out both the shroud and the radiator at the same time. I had to drill some holes to get a Harrison big block radiator in and it cools very well, but the difference in weight between it and an aluminum small-block radiator is significant. Besides, the price of aluminum radiators have come down over the years (Griffin makes a good one), so you won't have to spend much more to get the featherweight radiator with very good cooling ability.
I did this about a year ago when I installed my Griffen and dual spalls. The size of the support is the same, the opening in the support is what varries between sb & bb.
My car came with the little allum rad and I stepped it up to a HD Griffen 26 incher... never a cooling problem since!!!!
