Default Side yoke end play or something else.

I just replace another side yoke thinking it had to much end play.

~ 0.025" driver side, and ~ 0.008 passenger side. (before)

with a new yoke in the driver side I still get 0.025" end play.

So what else could allow for this amount of end play. Could this be from worn posi clutch plates. ? What other measurements can be taken to verify where the problem is.

Likely the posi clutches are worn or the side gears need shimmed for less backlash to the spider gears. Shims are in with the posi clutches.

Both sides have shims and are adjusted Independent of each other.

Did you check the differential pinion shaft for wear?

If this has wear it would effect both sides ? I am trying to understand why only the driver side may have a problem.

Would the adjustment change over time ? It was fine 2 years ago, so I am not sure the shims are the issue. It would be something that wears on the driver side.

The posi clutches can wear and cause side yoke end play. The posi clutches are between the case and the side gear on each side. If the clutches wear, the side gear which the side yoke snap ring sits against, will move out away from the center pin giving side yoke play. A combination of shims and clutches holds the side gear toward the spider gears to reduce backlash. Two things allow side yoke play, wear on the end of the yoke and worn clutches. Both sides don't necessarily wear the same.

Theoretically the pin will wear evenly on both sides but it is held in place with a "lock pin" screw and does not rotate. It can wear more on one side than the other given the right circumstances... you don't drive it on a circle track do you? (ha ha)

Well now you will know the rest of the story.

The corvette vendor sold me a core (yes you read it correctly a core, not new, not rebuilt) charged me for a hardened tip rebuild ( to be sourced from tom's diff ) someone made a mistake.

( I called Tom and he doesn't have stock hardened re-tipped ) so I guess it got substituted.

I will see what happens when they have stock and try the next one. I hope things work out better.
