Could someone explain to me any locations on my front suspension that do not need heaping amounts of grease on it? I am getting tired of working under my car and coming out all covered in grease and oil.
Where are the locations that should have grease on it and which are just places that are just road grime and grease and can be wiped off?
Other than places like inside the rubber boots of the ball joints you can clean up just about any of the grease you want....Be prepared....It's a messy job.
Find a shop that does steam cleaning. They will put it on a lift and steam clean the entire underside in less than 30 minutes. It won't be clean enough to paint, but it will be free of piles of grease, dirt, rocks, mud, etc. Parts will only requre some final prep with solvent wipedown and water soluable cleaner/rinse before painting. And, the bulk of the underside is fiberglass which does NOT require painting (not painted from factory).
You might want to remove the spare tire and tub before taking it there. Also, think about how many hours of tedious work and cans of degreaser you would need to DIY it. If you figure your savings per hour (based on DIY time) to justify the cost of that job, it's a no-brainer to have it done and save you a TON of grief.

Hi x,
One thing that you'll need to be aware of if you decide to "de-grease" the front suspension or other areas of the suspension or chassis is that many of those metal parts that have been "protected" by that layer of grease/grime will begin to rust.
That's not a problem on many parts, but is on some, so it's something you should at least be aware of.
If you were to "de-grease" under there you may want to still protect it all with a product like Pre-Lube 6 or something similar. That will stop much of the rust from forming but will give you a much cleaner 'place' to work under there.
Regards,
Alan
Being mine has a greasy underside, I like to refer to the grease as the Corvette anti-corrosion measure

I agree with the rust preventing properties of 40 years of road grime / grease under your Vette.
