Re: Help!! Cant get driveshaft out (Jester69Stingray)
You should only have to remove the bolts for the differential to driveshaft u-joint, slide the driveshaft foward slightly to clear the differential u-joint mounts and the driveshaft will fall down allowing for removal. The front spline tube slides back and forth slightly in the tranny during normal operation..... :smash:
Bob J...no way man, undo the diff bolts, the shaft falls off, but there is typically NO room to slide rearward at enough angle/depth to get the tranny yoke to slip off, need undoo both ends....PIA, but that' way mine was and still is...I looked at it while everything was apart, and no way man, not on my car anyway...
If you disconnect the front and rear yokes you should be able to slide the tranny yoke in a little to remove the driveshaft.

I just did this- he's right but you may have to pry the driveshaft forward a bit to get it started. Mine wouldn't budge til I gently pushed the tail end forward w/ a bar.
If you wire brush it real good, it's gonna look great. Then you just apply some tough clear on it, such as POR-15, and it should last many years. No, I didn't do it--I wire brushed mine, and then shot it w/ Eastwood's Detail Gray, to match the rear end and the half shafts.
Well... a 5 minute job guys... hit it with pb blaster, grab a breaker bar, about a foot of extensions and a 7/16 inch socket... give the bolts a pop, spin em out, grab the brackets. Go to the front half pull the brackets, take an extension and a hammer, tap the holes where the bracket bolts up... it'll slide forward, spin the rear tire enough to get the tailshaft floater job to move enough for the front u joint to drop... slide it forwards and she's out...
Thanks a ton guys... armed for the next job :yesnod:
I'm pondering an aluminum driveshaft now... even though that one is real short... and light :jester
