454 Build Up
I have found a '77 C20 with a 454 near my house. If it looks ok I am going to buy it tomorrow. My plan is to build the 454 in the truck while I get my '68 vert put back together and then put the 454 in the Vette.
I already have a set of 072 heads.
So, I seem to see a lot people like the RPM intake, 750 or 800 carb, and a voodoo cam.
My question is - would it make sense to swap just the intake and carb on the truck and do the heads and cam later? I only ask because the intake and carb could be done relatively cheap (buying used) and quick.
Also, does anyone have a PN on a voodoo came they like?
Thanks

What ever you do, make sure to investigate your hood clearance before buying parts...

496, rpm air gap, 1/2 nitrous plate, 14x3 air cleaner.
Daytona hood with vents filled in. Result.....1/4" clearance with solid mounts.

I know I'll need a bigger hood before the swap.
What carb do you run, forvicjr?
EDIT - will all these intakes work with my stock heads and my 072s?

Just need to make sure that you match oval with oval port rect with rect.

That was awkwardly phrased - let me try again. Are the ports on the stock '77 heads the same as the 072 ports.
Must have been a longer day at work than I thought

If 072 is a certain casting head your refering to yeah. You will find that most aftermarket intakes will accommodate most all stock heads being that they havent been ported. Now aluminum brodix with huge runners would be a different story. As I said earlier oval /oval rect/rect. I am mainly a small block kinda fella so Im not totaly up to speed on big block stuff. (Refering to casting numbers)

Just noticed in your first thread 072 is a casting. My mind escapes me sometimes. Sorry...lol

I bought a 454 roller cam engine from a 96+ chevy truck as a basket case for 400.. might be something to look into as an option for you.
