Default Lower ball joint bolt???

OK guys, what's the purpose of using this type bolt on the lower ball joint of the control arm on a C3. Mine's a '78 L82, 4 spd. if that matters. Thanks

It's meant to be the steering stop for some applications. On the earlier cars there is a stop welded to the control arm. Not sure about yours but I would imaging they are the same as the older ones

Here's mine from the 72, the stop welded to the are in on the bottom there about 7:00 from the ball joint

Better image showing the stop (driver side) where the spindle would come around and hit

As mentioned above, it is a bump stop bolt that is included with aftermarket ball joints.

However, it was never used on a Corvette so just use a hardened bolt instead. Factory ball joints were riveted in place and didn't use any bolts.
