Living in Ca with smog being a pain in the bum, just wondering your guys take on putting a erod motor, and does 7600.00 seem like a high price to pay for that kind of performance.
Have you looked for a used low mileage LS motor out of a Vette or Camaro. Most come with the transmission and computer assembly, pedal.
You could probably get all that hardware and possibly installed for your $7600 bucks. You will get the emission issue licked and get the added performance of the new modern transmission. I think these are great swaps into our older machines and it has become easier to do because of the aftermarket vendors making more kits and support.
The Erod motor is nice though!
Where can you get one for $7600 ? I have been looking, and the best I found was $7698. And that doesn't include the starter of front engine accessory kit, and more. It is probably closer to $10000 by the time all the parts are on the car
I would love to put one in my car, but it is hard to justify when it only gets driven a couple of thousand miles per year.
I also have a manual transmission, so there is a hydraulic throwout bearing, and lines to make it work.
Yea that's not including the electronics, that alone is another $1100 I believe. It's only money.......that I don't have.
I was off a few dollars for the motor. You can get at Jegs the connect and cruise, which is motor (ls3) and transmission(4l65e) for 11695.00 free shipping and handling. I would have it installed at BMR racing in Roseville, Ca. This will be for my retirement cruising , my last hoorah!

If you want to with an LS1 Conversion list it as a 2004 GTO. It's a throttle cable, LS6 Manifold and no EGR or AIR. Of course the block can be larger as they won't see that.
But now I'm thinking is it worth putting all the money into that kind of set up when I could just buy a C-5 for the same amount of money. And just put a 350 with 320hp and a 700r transmission. I like my 1981, and will be selling my 1989.
My brother just ordered his Factory Five GTM kit car and we were looking at all these engine options.
That E-Rod LS3 is a legit engine. You need to figure out how to plumb in the cats and stuff that it comes with, and I hope the headers fit, but if all that works out you have a PLUG AND PLAY 430 hp to fiddle with.
As others have pointed out, there is ~$2,000 of "other stuff" you need to purchase with the engine. The LS3 Controller Kit is about $1,200 and the Accessory Kit (brackets, alternator, other what-have-you's needed for the engine) is about $800.
It sounds like a lot of money, but a solid ground-up rebuild will run you $6k without even blinking and COULD make similar power. If you add a good FI system to said engine, you'll be bumping your head on $8k.
My point is that $9,000 to $10,000 ISN'T THAT BAD OF A DEAL for what you're getting.
If you have the money, there's no better option to modernize a California Corvette. That's my opinion.
Just to make you feel bad, we don't live in California...so my brother has set his mind to the LS376/525. Nasty engine.
