Default '70 Stingray and Speedometer/Tachometer Lights

I am re-assembling the dash to a '70 Stingray. The speedometer & tachometer lights do not work (bulb(s) appear to be out). They are NOT lighting up. I could pull out each light one by one however, if someone could tell me which lights are out specifically (which position), this would save a boat load of time. Thank you.

Hi Steve,
There are 4 bulbs for each gauge.
They're the gray wires.
If none of the lights are working I'd check the **** on the headlight switch to see if you've turned the dash lights all the way down, the ground wire for the dash harness, and the fuse for the dash lights.
Regards,
Alan

Default RE: 1970 Stingray Dash Lights

Hi Alan,

I checked the headlight switch appears to be okay. The fuse for the dash lights okay too. Do you happen to have a picture (I'm a visual learner) for the ground wire for the dash harness? Where is this connected to or supposed to be connected to?

Steve

The same BLACK wire is the ground for the center cluster when connected to the TEMPERATURE gauge.

The TAIL lamp fuse sends power to the INSTRUMENT fuse so make sure both are good.

You can bypass the rheostat in the head light switch by connecting a jumper from the courtesy fuse to the instrument fuse to confirm that the rheostat is not the problem.

As Peter said to jump to the instrument fuse to test-

Just to add.....clarification
The power fused by the tail light goes through the rheostat ( headlight switch)then from the light switch -dark green wire- travels back to the fuse box- instrument fuse -then gray wire to the dash lights.

Here's what the ground wires look like black (71) one for tach and speedo- a female spade connectors.
