Default LS engine swap thread?

Are there any threads that describe some of the issues with putting in an LS engine in a c3...specifically a 78?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

What transmission are you going with. I changed my 78 to a ZZ383 with a T56 Magnum. I now think I should have gone with the LS3 instead of the ZZ383.

My initial plan was to use the existing TH400 transmission since I was told it was recently rebuilt. After reading some of the great threads out there, I'm leaning toward a 5.3L variant. Plentiful and cheap.
Depending on where I source it from (which is confusing on its own...eBay,Craigslist,salvage,etc) I may be able to get the whole drive train.
Lots of research ahead of me!
Any recommendations you have on engine sources would be great!

I am a little bias since I have a 2010 GS corvette with the factory GM LS3. Checking with the C6 forums and very few problems with this engine I would look at the GM Performance catalog.

http://www.chevrolet.com/performance/parts-catalog.html

The downside is the cost from GM, but you can get everything you need, including the electrincs etc. Worth looking at just to educate yourself in whats required and what parts can be purchased direct with GM.

The LT4 would also be a nice project if you have the money to burn.

Depends on what youre looking for out of your car

Youll be real disappointed in the performance (lack of) comparing the 5.3 to a 383. Not to mention the cost of conversion it wont be easy nor cheap

Yeah, this car is for my son so I'm not too concerned about crazy performance.

I guess the real goal is for my son and I to do this build together and create a reliable driver. We plan to upgrade the brakes and of course the interior. (We spent 6 hours last week on it...the outcome?....we can now open the driver door! LOL)

I have 2006 C6Z that due to the faulty valves has a brand new engine. I splurged on that one since it's our track car. It's a 427 built up from an LS3 block from ERL. 550HP to the wheels. I don't really need another monster!
