Default HEI distributor wiring

Trying to clean up the wiring on my HEI distributor on my 80. The tach wire with the brown connector has a second wire along with it that runs to something that looks like it came from Bubba.

Am I good to remove whatever that is and have just the single white wire to the brown connector for the tach?

Also, I want to clean up the 10 ga BAT wire that's been hacked up. What's the best thing to do? Run a pink wire from the dizzy to the fuse block?

Looking forward to some insight...trying to prevent a fire with all of the shady wiring.

I wouldn't try to do any wiring without a diagram. You could fry your tach, distributor or alternator with a wrong connection. Or the whole car.

Here's a link for you.

You could always just get rid of all your old wiring and put in new Dakota Digital gauges with all the new sensors and wiring!!!

Thanks for the wiring diagrams. I just need to know what the orange thing is...that does not look original.

It's my understanding that's a filter to keep electrical noise from getting into your sound system. From the looks of your picture it's missing the wire out the other side which means it's not functioning anyway. If you're not getting RF noise in your radio, I guess I wouldn't worry about it. I removed mine when the wire broke and I've had no issues, although I have an aftermarket radio.

I have an aftermarket CD player. No noise that I can recall. Thanks!

Anyone know about running the BAT wire straight to the fuse block?
