Seeking member thoughts on adding a spacer between the carb and manifold? I understand a composite spacer will help with air flow and heat reduction, but I'm also curious if it will help a rough start issue...
The car will start and run for a few seconds but dies unless I keep my foot heavy on the gas. Also smelling a very rich fuel mix, so I know the tune is off...my mechanic installed the manifold and carb and should've tuned it properly then, so I'm casting a wide net and looking at the carb spacer as well.
1976 L-48 with an Edelbrock 1406 carb on an Edelbrock 2701 manifold, currently no spacer. I understand hood clearance is an issue so if I went with one I imagine a 1/2" spacer would probably be optimal.
Forget the spacer. Check for missing/loose vacuum hoses, loose carb mounting, etc., and as mentioned the choke adjustment. Hold the choke flap open and let it warm up fully. It should stay open by then
Is the choke coil getting switched 12V?
If its missing look for loose plug wires
Call the shop and complain!
