Im rebuilding my calipers and the lip seal must have deteriorated in the bore. I have a black ring that I need to get out. Can I use some 600 grit sand paper to clean up the bores?

I am not sure I understand your question. Is the black ring a stain or is it a physical lump of black rubber from the seal? If it is from the seal I would use a knife to scrap the excess. And hone the surface smooth.
If you are referring to a rubber seal that is stuck to the bores of the caliper, I have used paint remover. It works effectively and quickly. I follow up with a good clean with soap and water and air dry with compressed air. I next use denatured alcohol with pipe cleaners to clean the passages. Lastly, I dry using compressed air. I assemble using clean Dot 3/4 brake fluid. Good luck. Jerry
I thought I had read not use a brake hone on SS sleeved calipers. I did see a video that mentioned 600 grit emery cloth. I have a brake hone so that is an option.
