I know that in 1976 Corvette used the same steering wheel as other GM models, most notably the Vega. Is the steering column in the Corvette the same as other models or is it just the wheel that is interchangeable?
Bill, the Corvette steering column was unique to the Corvette. Some of the internal components may interchange, but over all it is unique. Jim Shea is a Forum expert on the steering columns and has published numerous papers on them and is extremely helpful in diagnosing problems or with disassembly and reassembly of them. This paper is just one, but I've found it answers most questions on these columns.
If you have any specific questions of him, just send a PM or email to Jim and I suspect he will get right back with you.

Thanks
Saginaw Steering Gear Division manufactured all C3 Corvette T&T steering columns. The 1969 thru 1976 columns were identical.
Chevrolet Division designed and sourced all of the steering wheel, strg wheel hub, horn parts, telescope lock parts, horn cap, turn signal lever, and tilt lever. Nearly all of the following parts were the same for all 1969 thru 1975 Corvettes. Here is a blowup showing these parts.
