I am installing a new aluminum radiator in my 1978 L82. I put some Preston Flush in the system while the old radiator was still there. Ran it for an hour or two and drained it. Now I have the new radiator installed. I have flushed the system with clear water to get all the old coolant out (there was very little in there).
Now I want to make sure I have all the water drained out including the block. Haven't tried yet to pull the plugs. If I can't get them out will it work to remove the lower hose and raise the back end of the car to drain the block?

Not really. The only way is to drain more is to remove the drain plugs on each side. Almost an impossible task, as if original will be rust welded in place.
I have gotten em out with engine on a stand, using 6 point socket and air wrench. In car access is very restricted.
If the thermo is removed it helps to flush out more junk.
