confirmed. i just spent the last four days looking at my block on an engine stand and i agree with ksems. it is located on the block kick-out just above where the oil filter mounts.
What is the sensor on the intake manifold, between the thermostat housing and the heater hose for?
That's the coolant temp sensor. Sends engine temp signal to the computer. It has a high resistance when cold and low resistance when engine warms up. It essentially tells the computer what the temp is while warming up so it can adjust the mixture control solenoid accordingly. If the sensor is bad, your car will run rich, 'cause it thinks it's still cold. The ECM also varies the timing during this warm-up process. That one little sensor can wreak havoc on your computer, which is why it's not recommended to install a low-temp thermostat (unless you use the Hypertech Stage II chip or equivalent that allows for lower engine temp signals). :seeya
