Do to recent post please don't reference the manufacturer. Anyway I have the mud flap type about 3 inch flares. This question came up from The13Bats
Curious on that whole L-88 flare VS Mudflap or ZL-1 flare as Ecklers calls it, I can run either I have both ACI L-88 and Ecklers ZL-1's.
do you like the MF flare over the L-88 style and does the "Name not to be said here" brand restyled L-88 flare, also allow dirt and mud to get tossed on the car like any L-88 flare does?
I had a fellow with the L-88 style say that street driving with them and the paint gets rock and sand pelted.
That is a consideration for a driven car....
I actually trimmed the mud flaps down because they were way to big, but they do offer some rear protection over the non mud flap type. The front really gets chipped from the front tires so I coated them with black pickup bed liner
Mine are the Ecklers ZL1 flares "mud flap", the front 18 inches of the rear flare takes a real beating, the front tires being flared also with a large tire combo just throws all kinds of road junk at it. This is a driver so it see's a lot of country roads etc. Its really the front flare that is the culprit, maybe a small mud flap on the front flare to catch the stuff.
The Steel city gray paint job was close to 30 years old and looks tired. With the new blue color i had the 3M clear wrap put on up to the black line. Three years so far and still looks good.

Get a piece of 3M Clear Bra. Takes a good beating and it will look good for a few years until it becomes discolored, but then you can replace it. I probably have some left over in the shed.
I will be making my own flares. I am styling them after the L88, but I will include the mud flap on the front. I plan on using the clear bra on the rear fenders. My buddies trans am car has it all over the front and it protects the paint well.
I plan to use either clear bra, vinyl wrap, or plastidip on the leading edge of my flares. I'm running Hoosier's on my car so that area is gonna get pelted. But then again I kinda like the rock chips on a real-world race car or street fighter.

The local race track had actual "gravel traps" So guys cutting the corners over the rumble strips would kick rocks all over the track

OK that explains your lack of success with 3M Clear Bra. I was going to hypothesize that either your rocks are bigger than our rocks, or your speed is significantly higher than my speed.

My causal theory leans more toward the speed.
I've raced in the pouring down rain. Your pacific raceway with mud and grass scares me more than rocks on the track. I just seemed to not be in Seattle on the right days years ago. I've heard that you have had more sun these past few years. The whole Puget Sound is a beautiful place!
