I just purchased desktop dyno and I'm having a hard time with it. I put in my engine specs ok but I bought a set of edelbrock performer rpm heads from a friend of mine and I wanted to see what kind of HP increase I would get with it over the stock heads. But when I change the heads I get no increase. Can someone try this out for me? My cam is a wolverine cam ( I forget the file name) but the specs are @050 214 224, dur 280 290 lift 443 465 and ls 112. I have stock 76 cc type heads and flat top pistons 650 carb and high hp mainfolds. The edelbrocks are 64cc and I have 1.6 rocker arms (wich I can't find how to change in the software). When someone gets a chance can they see if they get a hp boost. I would have thought going to 10:1 compression would have been worth a few hp alone.
To convert to 1.6 rocker you have to do the math yourself and enter your new numbers in the lift figures for your cam.
Yes, you do gain a few HP by increasing compression ratio. Very few. The only reason that it helps is that it can support a more radical cam.
You now know what the rest of us with DeskTop Dyno have found out about Eldelbrock heads. They don't seem to flow much better than stock. Not sure if it's really the heads or the program.
Thanks at least I know its not me. Odd about the heads they have some pretty high HP cam and head packages I would have thought the heads would make a difference. It may not be worth swapping the heads then. Go figure
I would think the weight savings alone over the iron heads would be worth it. I'm going to get them a valve job and I'll see what the race shop says. Since the heads are already paid for even if its only a small hp gain it would be worth it.
"The flow numbers for the chevy small block heads seem very optimistic! "
I agree since you can't specify 882 vs 442 or other specific heads I don't think you can really get an accurate baseline for a stock engine. I also played with my stock engine and got 30hp from going from high HP manifolds to headers. I find that a little hard to beleive.
