If you buy a factory sender that is 3/8 npt yes. I know there are aftermarket senders out there but I don't have any clue what the value range is on other aftermarket senders... Corvette didn't use them so I never tested them.

Should be the last question. An 81 Corvette has a 3/8ths npt. If I can find one of those and be sure of the range, that's where your resistor comes in..

That would be a standard TS76 sender you can get at your local parts store. We didn't test them when we did our testing years ago mainly because you really never sell them. Most the problems we were having when we started this project ranged between 1965-1977. I'll have to get one and test it sometime soon.
That may work for you, might be worth a try. The face of the gauge is different on the 80-82 gauge so the that may cause some issue too. The expected inputs are different but I don't think it will be so much that the resistor can't make the needed correction. I just can't say with certainty that it will.
