Default Another hood latch cable question

I just installed a new GM ( I guess it's called an) intermediate cable that goes from latch to latch on the underside of the hood on my 72.

How much (if any) slack should there be in the cable in regards to how tight it pulls the driver side latch arm toward the passenger side?

The old one had the pin in the 2nd hole from the end but the plate with all the holes in it was bent, effectively making it shorter and thus tighter.

I can get the new cable over to the third hole (like tightening a belt) but in doing so it pulls the arm the pin goes through as far as it can go.

The hood does open, so should I just leave it alone?

Hi B72,
The AIM indicates that there should be no slack.
"Attach R.H.side securely. Take up slack before securing L.H.side."
UPC 11, Sheet A9.
Regards,
Alan

Both sides should move simultaneously. Better a bit too tight than too slack.

Thanks everyone. Didn't cross my mind to check the AIM. Sorry for the inconvenience.

By the way NOS cable is very different than original if you decide to go that route.

Little thicker, textured cable and it has numbers stamped in it.
