Default Interior lights stays on ...

The weather finally broke here and I was able to go top less yesterday. This is my first real ride with this car since I got her last week. When the t tops are removed the interior light stays on?

The switches seem fine, so where do I start with this one?
Thanks.

Hi S,
Did you turn the headlight switch **** which dims the interior lights in one direction, but turns them on when turned counter-clockwise??
Regards,
Alan

Try or test the interior light timer- that is the little orange box you can get at when you remove the glove box.

I had interior light issues and replaced mine and it seems (so far) to have solved lots.

BTW... the removal of the TTops should have nothing to do with your lighting system. Start with switches

Thanks guys. I am confussed regarding the t tops though. The car is an 81 and there are door like switches that activate when the tops are removed. So they should not be tied to the interior lights? Then what tare those switches for?

My head light switch is bad, I hope, as I have no dash lights. I ordered a new switch to start trouble shooting with. I did not know about a dimmer box in back of the glove, thank you.

The switches in the t-top receivers are for the alarm, not the interior lights. When the factory alarm system is armed, and a top is removed, the alarm is supposed to sound.

If your interior lights are coming on, when you remove the tops, it sounds like you have a ground problem, or some other wiring issue. Something most be going on between the door courtesy light switches, that also work the alarm, and the alarm switches for the tops. Unfortunately, I can't give you a lot of help on how to correct the issue.

Actually that is a lot of help, thank you. Now I know what t switches are for, I can trace and test wires. Thank you!
