Default Reverse lock out cable issue...stiff

Shortly after installing a new reverse lock out cable it kinked due to excessive internal friction. I unkinked it and lubed it up but it's still super stiff. When I move the cable by hand I can fell the strands rubbing heavily, no amount of lube will fix that.

Has anyone else run into this of does anyone know if the current run of cable slides more easily?

Here's a pic I pulled from ebay which shows how it kinks due to excessive friction...apparently this is a common problem!!

Hi Jim,
I really don't know if a kink in the cable is a "common' problem".
When you installed the new cable did you test it before installing it to ensure it slid easily?
If it did, are you installing the cable properly so that it's one gentle curve from the lever on the steering column to the connection at the transmission reverse lever?
Are both the brackets that hold the cable on the transmission and guides the cable to the reverse lever in place on the transmission?
Is the cable installed properly at the steering column lever?

Alan, yes, the cable is properly oriented with a nice gentle curve. All proper hardware and guides are in place just as in your pictures. The cable was always stiff, I figured it would loosen up from use but obviously never did.

I'm hesitant to order a new cable, I know I can go without but would prefer to have everything as it was delivered.

Because of the cable's core and sheath construction I'm not sure that it ever slides 'easily'!
But with some effort it should slide smoothly.
I guess I'd try another cable and be very sure before installing it that it slides smoothly.

I'll see if one of then vendors would be kind enough to test one by hand prior prior to shipping!!

Jim....I just fixed this issue on my '72 and a new cable did the trick for me....My old cable didn't have much of a kink and slid pretty well when out of the car but installed it was just too tight. Also make sure the bracket at the column is tightened down, mine was slipping some and causing the key to not be able to move to the lock position easily. The vendor I bought it from is a support here but I'm not sure what the policy is about posting names.....It was $28 and seemed like a quality piece to me. I'll send you a PM with the vendors name.
