why do think it is part of a Quadrajet? you found it inside the float bowl or lying on the intake manifold? what year is the carburetor?

Walker lists it as a 4 barrel part. See attachment.

Yep, the same part was used on the older 50's and 60's Rochester two and four barrel carburetors for the same purpose.

If you look at this exploded view of a 2G Rochester it's part number 62 part of the accelerator pump check ball mechanism.
http://www.carburetorfactory.com/expvw23.html

I fail to see it in any exploded view of a Quadrajet. The equivalent check ball parts are 32 and 33 of the diagram below

http://www.442.com/tech/rochparts.html

What year or part number is the carburetor?

it is NOT USED in a Q jet. read my post above. item #32 in your Q jet breakdown is what replaces it

It doesn't go anywhere in a Q-Jet. It's a 2-barrel Rochester 2GC accelerator pump ball spring retaining clip. Throw it away.
