What's anyone's experience with electric chokes on their Q-Jets. Just got my 79 back with a fresh rebuild on the carb. I was wondering if its worth the work.

As you live in an area that can get awfully cold it's certainly worth the effort to have a functioning choke. Is your choke pull off diaphragm still functioning?

Just had it rebuilt yesterday, he set the choke a little loose to make sure the choke comes off. He mentioned adding a electric choke. I doesn't come out during the winter (salt!)
I would definitely recommend it. You can block off the heat riser passage going to the intake and still have a functional choke which lowers the temp of the intake air flow. Also an electric choke is much easier to adjust and dial in.
Make sure you remove the gasket from the hot air choke so the electric choke will ground through the carb properly.

Where is the best wire to get power? Beginning to look like a trip to Summit Racing darn the luck, seems like you come out of there with more than what you went for
I tapped into the red wire for the blower relay, ran it to an oil pressure switch near the distributor, and then ran the wire from that switch to the choke. This way, the choke only gets power when the engine is running.
