FYI - Unless the transmission was swapped out, your car most likely has the M-21 transmission. On the passenger side, you should see some numbers stamped into the case. These numbers will be your partial VIN and transmission type/build date. The "B" indicates M-21, an "A" = M-20, a "C" = M-22.
I also have a 1970 350/350, any 2 1/2" exhaust system will work just fine. Headers will offer better flow over the OEM cast iron manifolds. The rectangular tips you mention just bolt on, so they will fit any properly sized mufflers.
The transmission does indeed have a matching vin however the serial number excludes a letter at the end. It checks out with a manufacture date the same month as the car. It was touted as an M-22 by the previous owner, but trust is sometimes elusive in the world of vintage cars. I've done the research, but it seems further investigation is required. Also, there were only 25 Corvettes built in 1970 with that engine and transmission combination, according to production stats. I may have to have do some disassembly and have a look. Thanks for the info.
