hi; I have a 1980 vette that i have installed a 2012 ZZ4 crate engine and the tach filter stopped working after the car was driven hard, i have subsequently burned up another filter and 2 boards. the second filter shorted to ground and overheated my module thus no spark, when unplugged from the tach output the car started and ran fine. i then ran direct which worked fine for a while and eventually stopped working I think that this new distributer 2012 has too high current perhaps a simple ballast resistor in line with a new filter or possibly building a more robust filter any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

Unless the distributor/coil is defective... they all put out the same square signal and should not be an issue. What brand is the distributor? Something is spiking your boards but what I have no clue.
the distributer is from GM that came with the ZZ4 turnkey package.
last time I installed the new filter and board all was well at start up then after a bit of hard acceleration the filter failed.
I wish I could learn why before I replace the filter and board once again

You'll need to figure out what is spiking the board for sure. Let me talk with Bobby here and see if he has any suggestions. I won't see him for a couple of days but email me at Support@Willcoxcorvette.com and I'll see what I can do for you.
Bypass the filter and see if the board is still working. If it's our board, it's fused and an easy fix... 14.00 plus shipping.
