Differential Fill Level

Just changed the differential lube and I was surprised that at least 5-6 ounces came out when removing the plug. Were these overfilled from the factory?

are you the original owner and have never changed the fluid before? I would doubt GM would intentionally overfill anything on the production line.

No, I'm not the original owner and the previous owner died unexpectedly so I have no idea what was done to it in the past. About 54k (verified) on the clock. No sign of leakage and while nearly black the lube seemed nicely viscous. Replaced with the car on four jack stands so it was nearly level.

The previous owner probably filled it with the rear end only jacked up so it got a bit overfilled (which wouldn't hurt anything).

That was my other thought after intentional overfilling at the factory.
