Re: methods to get the tires spinning.... (SicChild)
One easy remedy is to put some horsepower in the car ...............Stock will not cut ...Popping into gear while revving the motor is a good way to drop the tranny :nono:
Re: methods to get the tires spinning.... (Blues77)
Aight, I figured the best way would be to lube the tires and/or horsepower. I believed popping into hear was bad but wasn't positive. Just wanted to confirm. How hard on the breaks is a break stand?

My dad told me he did this to one of his old hot rods he fixed up when he was a teenager. What you do is unhook the washer fluid hoses from the wipers and splice in another section of hose to each side and run them all the way to the back fender wells (up inside above the rear tires). Next fill your washer reservoir with bleach. Whenever you wanna lite em up and make tons and tons of white smoke, just give your washers a squirt (which really sprays bleach on the rear tires), roll forward about 2 feet and nail the gas. My dad sad he could sit there and smoke em all day long without having a ton of horsepower and without killing his brakes or tranny.
Re: methods to get the tires spinning.... (TravMsns)
Uh? What? Bleach? I wouldn't really want bleach on my tires, in my wheel wells, through my wiper system and possibly on my paint. How about using Sulphuric Acid on the tires, that will make them smoke too, and they won't even have to spin!
Sorry, just can't see the bleach trick.
Spinning the tires and having a smoke show is the effect of traction versus power in relation to a solid into a gas(smoke) form. You can adjust either side of the equation, add more power or reduce traction. However, adding a catalyst(like bleach, oil, acid, plutonium, etc.) is only going to effect traction and will sometimes cause smoke of it's own. Here's an idea, get some really bald radials for the back and burn them off.
Personally, I don't want to waste money that way, I'd rather have the power to spin the tires BUT the traction to lift the front ones off the ground.
The bleach trick is the one they use at the burn out contests. I never did really understand those events. But that bleach sure does make a lot of smoke, and a bicycle could do a burnout in a puddle of the stuff. :yesnod:
Sicchild, from looking at your sig pic you should be able to use the "South Dakota January" burnout trick..........which is to drive the car in the middle of winter. I guarantee you can burnout then. There's something about driving on the snow and ice that make burnouts easy. :D
Re: methods to get the tires spinning.... (SicChild)
The ones I'm familiar with are, #1 using brakes, #2 neutral then revving and popping into gear. Please share your ideas.
#1 is not too bad. If you keep doing #2 your next post will probably be “What are all those parts on the ground around my car?” or “Why is my engine running but the car won’t move?”
Re: methods to get the tires spinning.... (SicChild)
when my 72 had 9 year old tires they would spin real easy. Old and hard with good tread. Got new ones, same size, and they stick like glue :yesnod: So get more power, or good used tires at least 5 years old(check date code on sidewall).

Thanks, I just wanted to confirm that the two methods I said were hard on the car. People always try to tell me they are fine. And I didn't really know better, but now I do. Thanks

The best burnout I ever did was on a steep hill :chevy I got rolling backwards about 30 mph and put it in second WOT. I was still going backwards for a period of time till it stopped and then started going back up hill. A gas mask is required because it fills the interior with smoke.
The down side is  I seem to go through lots of trannys and U-joints.
Vettes seem to hook up better than any other car I've ever owned so it just takes more power to smoke the tires

Best way.
1. Tern steeringwheel all the way to the left.
2. Apply break pressure.
3.Gradually apply more throttle untill you break traction.
This will let you do slow tire squalling circles that look super cool.

Re: methods to get the tires spinning.... (SicChild)
Couple of other things you can do;
1) add a line lock kit, probably around $100.00 if you do it your self. You push a button and it locks your front tires and allows the back to spin
2) stall converter, a 2500 or if you really want to spin a 2800 stall. this will allow your engine to build power before it applies it to the back tires and then it will dump like a clutch. This will cost a little more. A good stall around 200.00 and then installation cost unless you do it your self.

Ah, the reverse slam...my parent's old 77 Delta 88 knows it well. :)
