I have a '78 and I'm going on my FOURTH A/C compressor and accumulator. I bought them from NAPA and only had to pay for the first one because of the warranty. Each time I've had a reputable A/C shop install it, replaced the accumulators, etc. NAPA claims my car is tearing them up...the last A/C shop said there is no way my car could tear them up, that sometimes there are bad "batches" of compressors because they are all rebuilt. (I find it hard to believe I've purchased three bad ones.) Before I go battle NAPA for the 4th one and have to pay out for the accumulator and labor to install, do you have any advice as to why they are crapping out on me? They last maybe 6 months or so. I've had belt alignment checked and voltage. I don't knowwwww. Help!
why isnt the AC shop providing the compressor of their choice? If it blows again and the AC shop supplied it, isnt the labor and the parts their responsibility? You shouldn't be the person in this transaction buying the parts on your own and then bearing the cost of labor.

I bought the first one directly from NAPA thinking ex-husband was going to install it, but then he got aggravated with getting the accumulator out, etc. (He's used to working on heavy equipment.) Soooo, I took it to a shop and they installed.
