Has anyone ever converted their Engine temperature gauge and sending unit to a capillary tube (Mech. Gauge)? Friends of mine who race cars on a round track uses the capillary gauges which seem to be more accurate. I was wondering if I could match a Mech. gauge that looks like the original one. It would be easy to install as long as the gauge will fit in the center console of my 72.
I somehow missed your question.... I just added one and mounted it on the bottom of the dash.... One of these days I'll fix the stock one but got other things to fix before then .

I'm at that point and getting ready to take a long drive and need to know what the engine temp will be. I haven't had a problem but, you never know.
It's cheap insurance....Cost around $20 from the local parts store....Here is a pic of where I mounted it. The engine prob went on the driver's side of the block, the gauge came with all the right fittings.

Thanks Brian! I think I may go with that setup. I've read that you should insulate the capillary tube from heat that radiates from the header to prevent a false temp reading. Did you have that problem?
