Electric fan wiring for dummies
I am installing an electric fan on my 69, and have a very basic wiring question. The wiring diagram that came with the relay kit shows a 10 ga. wire going from the relay to a circuit breaker and then the battery. Do I really have to run this wire all the way to the battery, or is there another power source under the hood that I can use?
Also, the adjustable temperature control switch shows it gets its power from an ignition controlled power source. Where's the easiest place to go for that?

The main lug on the starter motor can be used, but if you tap that, insert a fuseable link as it comes off the starter. Doing so will affect the accuracy of the ammeter because the stock wiring is being by-passed. Some will tap the horn relay, but 40 year old wiring might be stressed due to the electric fan. The most business-like source for the switched feed is the IGN lug on the fuse panel. Drill a 1/4" hole in the firewall near where the large rubber grommet (tach drive, vacuum hose, etc) is located. Use weather sealant to bond in a 4" piece of 1/4" hose with half on each side of the firewall and feed the wire thru the hose. You will be able to reach up under the dash to pull the wire thru to the panel. Another source is the wiper motor, but I always thought that was not as nice a job as the panel.
