I am interested in getting rid of my points set-up and using the Petronix conversion kit to keep the stock look. Anybody have good results from this kit? Any issues with installation? BYW..I've got a 1970 LS5.
Re: Anybody use Petronix Ignitor Conversion Kit? (70454)
I installed the Ignitor in my 66 coupe and love it. Installation is very simple, but make sure you shim the distributor to remove excess end play before installing the ignitor. The ignitor likes a full 12V across it (thus eliminating the ballast resistor used in the stock set up), but if you are running the stock coil it may not hold up to the full 12V very well and thus you may want to replace it with the Pertronix Flamethrower coil. Idle quality improves dramatically. Good luck, I think you will like it.

I installed the IgnitorII this summer, with an MSD6AL and Blaster2 coil, everything works great, and I can pull easilly above the 4300 rpm where my points started breaking up. I set the rev limiter to 6500 rpm as it would now pull easily right through to 7000. I have put about 2300 miles or so on this system since last week of July. I have read from others that the Ignitor has had some failures, if mine does next year I will replace it with an MSD Pro Billet tach drive.

I got mine working after some problems. On my 72 the coil voltage (just around 5 volts) was to low to run the unit correctly. I finally ran a wire from the fuse box to provide 12 unswitched volts. Works great now. Pertronix has a new one out which I think they call the Ignitor II. This one will adjust the dwell to increase/maintain spark performance at higher RPMs plus has a auto kill feature so if you leave the key in start it will ground out the system saving itself and the coil from burn out. Costs more though...
Re: Anybody use Petronix Ignitor Conversion Kit? (joe58)
I installed the Igniter I, and it failed after about 1200 miles. I then tried the Igniter II, which failed after 500 miles. Now I am using the old points with the Flame Thrower coil, and it runs just as good as with the Igniter(s) actually worked.
Go ahead and give the product a try (it has a warranty), but keep your points in the glove box, and if you ever get a no-start situation, put the old points in first. It will save you a couple frustrating hours.

Mine has worked perfectly for the two and a half years or so that I've had it. Only minor complaint is I have the model that you need to turn the ignition on for a few seconds before starting. I use the time to do up my seatbelt!!

Pure Junk I would never use their products......My ignitor II failed very quickly...Now I run a Mallory Dual point tach drive which runs better anyway
Re: Anybody use Petronix Ignitor Conversion Kit? (70454)
Consider the Mallory Unilite conversion, I'm running one and has done great so far. I went this route since they seem to be much more reliable according to what I have seen here then the pertronix units. They are more expensive, but I have better piece of mind with one.
